Changes in glomerular filtration rate during long-term treatment with propranolol in patients with arterial hypertension.

چکیده
1. Glomerular filtration rate was determined from 'Cr-EDTA clearance in twenty hypertensive subjects treated with propranolol. 2. A significant mean decrease of 13% in the glomerular filtration rate was found during treatment, and an increase of the same order of magnitude after withdrawal of propranolol. 3. It is suggested that these changes are related to a reduction in the renal blood flow. 4. No significant changes were found in plasma volume.

Renal responses to long-term carotid baroreflex activation therapy in patients with drug-resistant hypertension.
Carotid baroreflex activation has been demonstrated to provide enduring reductions in arterial blood pressure. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of long-term therapy on renal function. A total of 322 patients were enrolled in the Rheos Pivotal Trial. Group 1 consisted of 236 patients who started baroreflex activation therapy 1 month after device implantation, whereas in the 86...
متن کاملEffect of antihypertensive treatment on kidney function in diabetic nephropathy.
The effect of long term, aggressive antihypertensive treatment on kidney function in diabetic nephropathy was studied prospectively in 11 insulin dependent diabetics (mean age 30). During the mean pretreatment period of 32 (range 23-66) months the glomerular filtration rate decreased significantly and albuminuria and the arterial blood pressure increased significantly. During the 72 (range 32-9...
متن کاملLong-term hypotensive and renal effects of atrial natriuretic peptide.
The present study was designed to examine the short-term and long-term effects of increased plasma levels of atrial natriuretic peptide on the glomerular filtration rate, sodium excretion, and arterial pressure. Intravenous infusion of synthetic atrial natriuretic peptide (2 micrograms/kg/bolus, 50 ng/kg/min continuous infusion) for 45 minutes in six conscious dogs increased plasma levels of im...
متن کاملProspective measurement of glomerular filtration rate and effective renal plasma flow during treatment of malignant essential hypertension.
A longitudinal study of sequential measurement of glomerular filtration rate and effective renal plasma flow was conducted over a 5-year period of antihypertensive drug treatment, in four adult patients admitted to hospital with previously untreated malignant essential hypertension. Treatment produced a substantial and sustained lowering of systemic arterial blood pressure, compared with grossl...
متن کاملChronic hypotensive effects of verapamil in angiotensin hypertension are steroid independent.
This study was designed to examine the mechanisms that contribute to the chronic hypotensive effects of verapamil during angiotensin II-induced hypertension. Hypertension was induced in five dogs by continuous intravenous infusion of angiotensin II (5 ng/kg/min) for 17 days. On the sixth day of angiotensin II infusion when daily sodium balance was achieved, mean arterial pressure (control, 92 +...
